The way from the Central Railway Station leads to the Palace of Culture and Science – the tallest building in Poland (234.5 m), and, at the same time, the best known work of socialist realism, decorated with monumental realist sculptures. It houses cultural and scientific institutions, the famous Congress Hall and museums. From the 30th floor of the palace spreads a beautiful panorama of the city.
If you go along Marszałkowska Street, passing Saski Garden and Solidarności Avenue, you will reach Castle Square, dominated by the magnificent Royal Castle with its elegant chambers: Canaletto Room, Throne Room, Knight Room and Marble Room, and the beautiful Ball Hall, where the biggest Polish plafond depicting a mythological scene is placed.
Świętojańska Street leads from there to the Old Town Square Market (we also recommend visiting the Historical Museum of the City of Warsaw).
The Łazienki Park can be reached from the Old Town by Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie along the Vistula river –or through the city centre (Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, then Nowy Świat and Aleje Ujazdowskie). Warsaw’s most beautiful palace and park complex - the Łazienki Park – is a former villa of King Stanislas. It features Stara Pomarańczarnia (Old Orangery) Theatre, Palace on the Water, Amphitheatre with the stage on an island, Belweder Castle, the Monument of Chopin.
On the way back, it is a good idea to turn right at Charles de Gaulle Roundabout to Aleje Jerozolimskie, to visit the National Museum presenting ancient collections, which include valuable early Christian frescoes from Farras in Sudan, discovered by Polish archaeologists, and the collection of European art (the 16th - 18th centuries) as well as interesting Flamish and Dutch paintings.
The all-day tour can be finished with delicious dinner at one of the cafes at Nowy Świat.
Proposed out-of-town tour:
