Karol Scheibler

 

Came from a family of German Lutheran religion. His father owned a cloth factory in Germany. Karol learned the profession in England and then practiced in Belgium, France, Scotland and the Netherlands. In 1848 he came to the Kingdom. He was director of the cotton spinning mill of his uncle Frederick Schloesser in Ozorkow. Rich industrialist's marriage in 1854 to Anna Werner, daughter of the owner of cloth factories in Zgierz and Ozorkow and sugar in Leśmierzu helped him to in a start of stand-alone career . Dowry of his wife twice surpassed his own savings. Collected in this way amounts, supported with loans, helped to open his first factory in 1855 - fully mechanized spinning.

 

Karol Scheibler (1820-1881) began with his work a new epoch in the history of industrial Lodz, secured its leading position in Europe in the field of textile industry. He was the inventor of the great industrial empire, which consisted of a group - Headquarters in the Wodny Rynek (Water Market) (now Plac Zwycięstwa - Victory Square), the complex Ksieży Młyn and buildings along the Fr. Bishop Tymieniecki street up to Piotrkowska street.

 

Nurturing the development of industry have always remembered by his fellow citizens. Both the K Scheibler, and after his death, his widow, Anna Werner, the son of Charles William, daughter and son in law, Matilda and Edward Herbstowie, donated huge sums needed for the construction of city buildings: schools, hospitals, churches. Always have been first in supporting all kinds of charitable action.

 

He is buried in the Old Cemetery in Lodz Scheibler's Chapel.
