Ksiaz Castle (pol Zamek Książ, ger: Fürstenstein, Frstenberg, Vorstinburg, Vorstenberech, Wistenberch).

 

The third-largest castle in Poland after the Malbork Castle and Wawel Castle in Krakow. Built between 1288-1292 by Prince Świdnicko-Jaworski Bolek I Surowy. In 1392 after the death of Princess Sarah castle and the rest of duchy was passed to Czech monarchs. In the years 1491-1497 it belonged to the Czech and Hungarian king Władysław Jagiellończyk. In 1509 it was placed to the family of Hoberg (later changed their name into Hochberg). During the 30-year war (1618-1648) was partially destroyed. In the years 1705-1732 Konrad Ernst Maximilian von Hochberg rebuild castle in the baroque style. In the twentieth century, Książ began to slowly fall due to Hochberg family finantial problems. During World War II, Nazis carried out extensive building works, which the purpose is unknown (eg underground tunnels). Discharge concentration camp prisoners. After 1945 the castle was devastated by the Soviet troops stationed. Then the work of renovation began.
