Chełm (a municipal city) is a city with about 70.000 inhabitants and the area of 35.28 km² – is the second largest city in the Lublin Province. Chełm (on the Uherka river) is situated in the middle East of Poland, 29 km away from the border crossing with Ukraine in Dorohusk, 72 km away from the border crossing in Zosin and 92 km away from the border crossing in Hrebenne. The city is an important communication node – there is the international communication artery: Paris – Berlin – Warsaw – Chełm – Kiev, connecting Western Europe with Ukraine with the shortest route.
